5 Ways to motivate your salon staff

It can be a delicate balancing act ensuring that your salon business moves forward and progresses, all whilst keeping your staff motivated by any company changes that you make.

It’s equally as challenging to ensure that your salon staff are continually motivated to work within your hair, beauty or barbering business in an industry that is notoriously competitive.

After all, as most salon owners will be well aware, your salon staff mainly hold the relationships with clients and are the reason clients come back to your salon time and time again.

𝟏. Incentives & reward your team

By offering your team something they want in exchange for them doing a good job is the best way to motivate them.

For example: If your team has hit their retail sales target, rewards them as a team for the good work. You could reward each as an individual with a free retail product or a one for all or a lunch voucher.

𝟐. Training opportunities & progression

Education & training is the key to keeping your team motivated & passionate.

It is important to keep both new and long term staff motivated with a refresher, or up-skill course. A course on new industry trends or something they are not fully confident with.

πŸ‘. Decision time

When it comes to making decisions in your salon it is a good idea to ask your team for their opinions and ideas.

Not only will it make them feel like an important part of the business but also if they are not on board with a new retail brand or service, chance are it may be a non starter.

Your team are in contact with clients everyday & if anyone knows what they need and want it is your staff.

By adding simple techniques like these you can make a shellac nails only client to a facial client, laser client etc! And increase the frequency they will visit your salon!

Listen to their ideas and consider them when making decisions.

4. A simple "Thank you"

Sometimes if you are overwhelmed and super busy as a business owner it can be easy to forget to say "Thank you". By acknowledging your teams work & efforts it will make them feel valued and appreciated in the salon.

4. Treat everyone as an individual

When I worked in Australia I was encouraged to think of the salon like my own business & that my collum was my responsibility . It was a great incentive as the busier my collum was the better it was for me financially, and also my boss.

It was a "win, win". By giving an individual that responsibility it will remind them that your success is theirs too, it is a great way to motivate them to work hard.

I hope you found these tips helpful and if you're not already, will start implementing them in your salon to keep your staff motivated to work hard and in turn increase your profit!
